UAT Game Students Playtest Game for Local Developer E-Line Media

On Friday, Game Professors Hue Henry and Jorge Portillo took 10 UAT students to E-Line Media to playtest one of their up-and-coming titles. E-Line Media is a local game developer that creates “Games for Change.” They are best known for their titles “Never Alone,” “Gamestar Mechanic” and “MINECRAFTEDU.” Students were able to experience the game testing world by interacting with multiple phases of the game, applying feedback verbally and through surveys. “It was great to see UAT build a relationship with such and impactful developer that is making games for the greater good of the community,” Professor Portillo said. Put technology in the hands of UAT students Kenny Vorseth and Ryan McDonald and watch their ideas unfold as they create new ways to use tech devices. Last year, the two-student team developed a cost-effective Head Mounted Display for Virtual Reality, using a 3d printer and materials at UAT. The goal of the project was to create an innovation but also to build a device that actually worked. The long term goal is to decrease the cost by using lower resolution screen. The summer semester is winding down, but many UAT Game Studios development teams are still hard at work trying to complete as much work on their games as possible before the Greenlight Celebration at the Game On Expo. Each semester, student game developers pitch a game concept to UAT Game Studios Professors hoping to be greenlit into production for the semester. The Arizona Video Games Showcase joined Phoenix Comicon last year giving UAT indie game companies a chance to showcase their completed games to the public. This year, UAT Game Studios Team Leads stepped it up by pitching Phoenix Comicon as panelists; for which they were selected to speak about “Team Leads Perspective on Game Development.” Team Lead for Crimson Nights, Kenny Ryan who majors in Game Design has a great deal of knowledge in team collaboration and gameplay design.
