Hey UAT students… The Austin Game Conference wants you! Submit your application to become a Volunteer Coordinator at the Austin Game Conference, but don’t wait, there are a limited number of positions available. Volunteers gain full access to AGC when they are not working. The Volunteer Coordinator will work with volunteers to insure a percentage of their time is left open to attend portions of the conference. DEFCON Hacking Conference

DEF CON is one of the oldest and largest continuously running hacker conventions, which seems to continue growing each year. UAT will make its usual rounds at DEF CON to connect with alumni as well as many like minded technology-driven individuals. Originally started in 1993 by The Dark Tangent, DEF CON is a unique experience for each con-goer. All events at DEF CON were conceived by the attendees. Student Innovation Project

The Student Innovation Project, or SIP, gives students a chance to develop an innovative idea and put their creativity to work. As early as their sophomore year, students are asked to begin brainstorming for their SIP. In SIP311, where students come up with a project and outline a viable prototype. During their senior year in SIP483, students use most of the time to work on the SIP, constructing a working model that will later be judged at the SIP Fair by UAT Faculty and local industry leaders for feedback. Last week, students constructed solar ovens in Professor’s Jill Brumand’s Sustainability in Practice class. Groups of students from all different disciplines brainstormed ideas and turned their plans into man-made solar ovens. This example of a solar oven was designed by Network Security student Will Peterson. He constructed the box to capture and focus sunlight from multiple angles. The Southern Colorado Girls STEM group lead by Professor Jill Coddington, UAT Program Champion in Advancing Computer Science and Robotics, spent the weekend at UAT’s Tempe campus for a Future You University event during June 10-13, to offer these students a taste of the technology-infused innovation that surrounds our students each and every day.  These 17 middle school students won a STEM competition and their prize was a technology-filled experience at UAT. On Saturday, April 2, UAT Campus was packed with student innovators prepared to compete in tech games ranging in Network Security, Marketing and Social Media, Robotics and more.
