UAT’s League of Legends eSports team That’s Suboptimal had a BYE last weekend due to their top performance. Currently Team That’s Suboptimal is ranked in the Top 16 teams in the West and will play in the Round of 16 on March 4, against University of Southern California USC A. If they win on March 4, they will enter the Regional Quarter Finals or the Top 8 on March 11. Teams that make it to that stage will earn a $1,000 scholarship per player. UAT has a 5-member eSports team called “That’s Suboptimal” who’ve been competing in the Collegiate Starleague League of Legends Competitions for the win. Believe it or not, they are actually killin’ it in the game and are currently undefeated! Team That’s Suboptimal now sits atop the West 6 Division having won out over Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Riverside, Cal State San Bernadino and the Long Beach BeachBoys. The Student Innovation Project Fair (SIP) gave senior-level students a chance to present an innovative project to fellow classmates, faculty and staff. The SIP component is a requirement upon all students before graduation. The SIP is a reflection of the UAT Experience – developing ideas, prototyping the ideas into viable projects, and building the projects. This exercise also serves as a tangible project to showcase for future job opportunities. In preparation for the 2016 State of the City Address on Dec. 2, Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell spent a few hours at UAT familiarizing himself with UAT’s new Virtual Reality degree by testing out “Bust’a Worm”, a new virtual reality game students created for the HTC Vive, originally developed for a 48-hour game jam. Mayor Mitchell also met with students Kenneth Vorseth and Ryan McDonald as they demonstrated their cost effective version of a VR head mounted display (HMD) unit, a product they have been innovating all semester and have hopes of bringing the finished version to the consumer market. UAT Partners with Warriors Heart to Offer STEM Scholarship for Veterans Suffering from PTSD

UAT is offering veterans a chance to pursue a STEM career by partnering with Warriors Heart to advance job skills of alumni who complete their 28-day peer-to-peer healing program. Warriors Heart is the first and only private treatment center for “Warriors Only” (veterans and first responders) in the U.S. dealing with substance abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or psychological effects of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI). The partnership began when UAT President Jason Pistillo met with Warriors Heart CEO and Co-Founder Josh Lannon at a Young President’s Organization (YPO) meeting. Before the fall semester begins, students move into the resident dormitory UAT Founder’s Hall and participate in Connect Orientation to get to know the campus and other students.
