Hollywood filmmakers such as Peter Jackson and James Cameron have spent many years and many millions of dollars developing systems that would allow them to preview in real time the visual effects for their blockbuster films. UAT undergrads replicated their results using off-the-shelf components, the Unreal game engine, some ingenuity, and a ton of hard work.   Do you love video games? UAT Alumnus Kendal Cormany, 24, definitely loves to play video games, but he also loves to create them, as well! Kendal earned a Bachelor of Science in Game Programming from the University of Advancing Technology in 2012. After graduation, Kendal was contracted to design mobile games, but he desired the creativity and freedom of starting his own business, which today is known as Spiky Fish Games. Students Mario Castaneda and Ty Taylor Win PAX 10 Award

UAT student Mario Castaneda, along with development partner Ty Taylor, have won a place in the PAX 10 indie awards for their game The Bridge. With graphics inspired by M. C. Escher, and strategy that pays homage to Isaac Newton, The Bridge is a 2D logic game that lets players explore seemingly impossible architectures. The PAX 10 winners are selected by a group of 50 industry experts each year. The Bridge recently won the Indie Game Challenge Award for Achievement in Art Direction and Achievement in Gameplay, as well as other awards. 2012 ComicCon Reflection on the Masses (Masses of Fun That Is!)

Another year, another Phoenix ComicCon. ComicCon 2012 was another banner event for both the area and for UAT’s presence at the event. Wil Wheaton commented in the The Next Generation panel that Phoenix ComicCon was one of the best run conferences around and I have to concur. Over 32,000 people played, gamed, screened, dressed up and otherwise had great fun at the event. For UAT, the Digital Video students films screened as a part of the Con film festival.
